Government fund helps innovative Dutch entrepreneurs set up shop abroad

Ten innovative Dutch firms have been selected for the Oranje Handelsmissiefonds 2016 (which translates as Orange Trade Mission Fund).

The companies selected have ambitious plans to do business abroad, some are young startups others are well established entrepreneurs. To help them launch operations abroad the Dutch government has set up a special fund, the Oranje Handelsmissiefonds.

Ten companies have been selected to receive extra financial help, but it not just about the money. The fund also provides entrepreneurs with the right network, specific knowledge and relevant experience to succeed beyond the national boundaries.

The fund helps businesses make a successful entrance into foreign markets. The competition includes an elevator pitch and successful firms are invited to join trade missions abroad.

The winners

Aerofilm Systems designs, develops and produces air cushion transport systems, literally making light work  of logistics, due to business in the United States.

Dopper makes sustainable water bottles reducing single-use plastic and encouraging the use of tap water. Dopper is launching operations in the US.

Globemilk specialises in long-life milk and developed farmhouse soft ice-cream. So it is no wonder that Globemilk is keen to export to the United Arab Emirates.

Holland Water provides sustainable solutions for safe water without diseases such as legionella. This market leader in copper and silver ionisation systems wants to trade in the United Arab Emirates.

Klaver Fietsparkeren is a specialist in bike parking. Of course everybody has a bike in the Netherlands but cycling is on the up in many countries. Klaver hopes to cooperate with companies in Colombia.

Milgro provides products and services for independent refuse and raw material management. This company hopes to help the United Kingdom in the transition towards the reuse of refuse.

Patta is a company specialising in streetwear. After travelling the world visiting small local traders, Patta now imports obscure labels alongside the well-known brands. Now the company wants to branch out to Tokyo and Hong Kong.

TinyEYE has developed online speech therapy for children and adults to help tackle the long waiting lists in this area. TinyEYE is going to export its e-Health module tele-speech therapy to Germany.

Yalp  develops hightech interactive outdoor playgrounds and sports equipment. Yalp wants to roll out its ideas for wifi playgrounds in the United States.

 ZAZU nothing does more good than a good night’s sleep. Zazu makes childrens clocks and sleep trainer helping children (and parents) get the rest they need. This company is looking to set up in Brazil.

In addition to prize money, the firms will each receive training from ING, KLM, MKB-Nederland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency ( to help them launch in the international arena.
