Dutch eco-friendly smartphone goes on sale
After a successful crowd-funding campaign, the company Fairphone from the Netherlands has started the delivery of their eco-friendly smartphone.
Only conflict-free minerals, tin and coltan
Fairphone guarantees that their handset will contain only conflict-free minerals, tin and coltan from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Dutch company also assures customers that its product will be made in a factory in China where workers are paid a decent wage. Fairphone will also provide transparency regarding its bill of materials, its cost breakdown and its first level suppliers. As for recycling the product, the Dutch phone manufacturer has joined existing e-waste programs. They also introduced a phone sell-back program and offer spare parts of all components through the company’s sales channels. The Dutch smartphone will cost 325 euros (including tax). Part of the profits will be used to fund future interventions in the supply chain.
