Dutch businesses laud royals' contribution to trade
The broad majority of businesses in the Dutch technological sector is pleased about the positive influence which the country's royals have on foreign trade. A survey held by FME Association, Holland's largest business association, shows that 76 percent are positive about the role which Queen Beatrix played as ambassador of Dutch enterprise during her reign. Moreover, 86 percent of entrepreneurs expressed confidence in how upcoming King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will represent Dutch business interests abroad.
FME Association has 2500 member companies with more than 225,000 employees. The survey was done by 347 companies that export to an average 23 countries. This group earns 80 percent of its turnover abroad.
In a recent television interview, the Crown Prince said he would like to continue playing an active role in economic diplomacy on behalf of the Netherlands. In June, the new head of state and his spouse will embark on their first official trade mission, to Germany, Holland's largest trading partner.
