Resource efficient industry: Sustainable greenhouses

Feeding the global population in a sustainable manner is one of the greatest challenges in an urbanising world.

‘Dutch greenhouses’ climate-friendly production enables a healthy and sustainable food supply’

Feeding the global population in a sustainable manner is one of the greatest challenges in an urbanising world. The Dutch have a centuries-old reputation for producing high-quality foodstuffs. Nowhere else in the world are plants cultivated so intensively and yet with a low impact on the environment. To meet the demand for CO2 in greenhouse horticulture in an environmentally friendly way, a transport pipeline and extensive distribution networks supplies greenhouse entrepreneurs with captured pure CO2; a by-product of neighbouring industries. This integrated approach utilises substantial amounts of CO2 that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. This smart approach takes a waste product that is detrimental to the environment and transforms it into a value product by employing it for the production of greenhouse horticulture.
