Dutch Cuisine: An Entirely Unique Food Culture

Dutch Cuisine is a branch organisation that has teamed up with the Dutch government, in particular Holland Branding, to promote Holland’s agri-food sector. It highlights Holland’s approach to producing pure and healthy food: sustainably and fairly, from field to fork. It is a movement focused on raising the (inter) national profile of the Netherlands’ cooking culture in the broadest sense of the word

Dutch Cuisine

Tasty, healthy and responsible cooking

This cuisine is unique in both its simplicity and creativity - and irresistible due to its wayward character. But above all, it’s a cuisine which is underexposed. Dutch Cuisine is therefore focussed on putting the Netherlands’ gastronomic culture on the map, both nationally and internationally. Tasty, healthy and responsible cooking based on 5 principles of sustainability for people, animals and the environment are the mainstays of our mission. Why Dutch Cuisine

Going beyond the desire to eat tasty and healthy foods, is our commitment to the principle that all foods should be produced, processed, distributed and disposed of in ways that:

  • Contribute to thriving local economies and sustainable livelihoods - both in the Netherlands and, in the case of imported products, in producer countries
  • Protect the diversity of both plants and animals and the welfare of farmed and wild species,
  • Avoid damaging or wasting natural resources or contributing to climate change
  • Provide social benefits, such as good quality food, safe and healthy products, and educational opportunities.

Because we realise the importance of sustainability, we see Dutch Cuisine, as a connecting chain, that can accelerate the change in making food consumption more sustainable and in doing so it can benefit both our society and land.

Dutch Cuisine, just a part of our culture

Dutch Cuisine communicates through the food plate, where our history and heritage, our land and our technology, and our creativity and riches come together; it is a story we need to tell.

We have fantastic food, traditions and products, as well as incredible number of chefs - more per square kilometer than any other country in the world. Our Dutch Cuisine chefs are our champions and ambassadors. They are bold enough to address major issues by assigning a major role to vegetables, and by creating dishes with an 80-20% balance between seasonal vegetables and meat or fish. The impact of their creativity on people, animals and our planet is sizeable.
